Encountering Huang Tingjian and Mi Fu’s calligraphy and calligraphy exhibition returns in December

Located on the third floor of the Shanghai Museum in People's Square in the center of Shanghai, the Shanghai Museum of Calligraphy and Painting in the Past Dynasties is the only permanent exhibition at home and abroad that separates calligraphy and painting and systematically displays the general history of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting. Usually there is a cycle every six months, and a certain number of new faces will appear each time. It was previously closed due to the relocation of cultural relics and the need for exhibition decoration in the East Hall of the Shanghai Museum.

The Paper has learned that while the Shanghai Museum is currently packing and relocating cultural relics and intensively building the East Building, some of its permanent exhibitions in the People’s Square (Chinese Calligraphy Museum of the Past Dynasties, Chinese Paintings of the Past Dynasties) will reopen for free at 9:00 on December 10, 2023. Museum, Chinese Ming and Qing Furniture Museum, Chinese Ethnic Minority Crafts Museum). Among them, the Calligraphy Hall and the Painting Hall will make a wonderful return after the exhibition change. The exquisite works on display include the Northern Song Dynasty Huang Tingjian's "Di Lianggong Stele Album in Regular Script", Mi Fu's "Running Script Chapter Hou Tie Page" and Tang Yin's "Huang Mao Xiao Scenery Picture Scroll" in the Ming Dynasty, etc. .

According to Shanghai Expo, there are 39 permanent exhibits in the Chinese Calligraphy Museum and 78 permanent exhibits in the Chinese Painting Museum this round. They follow the idea of integrating masterpieces that debut for the first time, have not been seen for a long time, and are used in special exhibitions into the permanent exhibitions. More than ten new calligraphy and painting masterpieces and new products have been added.

Regarding the permanent exhibition of the Shanghai Museum, the relevant person in charge of the Shanghai Museum previously told The Paper that there are actually only a handful of museums at home and abroad that have permanent exhibitions of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting. “The significance of the permanent exhibition is to popularize. Systematic and representative collections Support is a key element in setting up a permanent exhibition of calligraphy and painting, because the Chinese Painting Museum of the Past Dynasties and the Chinese Calligraphy Museum of the Past Dynasties at the Shanghai Expo are general history exhibitions, not special exhibitions. For example, the calligraphy of the past dynasties starts with the "two kings" of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and the representatives of past dynasties Works of figures must be included, and the Shanghai Expo has a relatively complete context in this regard. In other words, our exhibition of paintings and calligraphy of the past dynasties is the Chinese calligraphy and painting of the past dynasties collected by the Shanghai Expo.”
